GetScannedToday
Introduction
When it comes to getting an urgent and accurate ultrasound scan, there are two main options: Private Clinics and Urgent Care Centers. Each has its unique advantages, and the best choice often depends on your situation, needs, and budget. In this guide, we’ll explore what you should look for when choosing between private and urgent care ultrasound services to ensure you receive quality, efficient care.
Ultrasound Scanning Services: What Are Your Options in Urgent Situations?
In urgent medical situations, timely diagnosis is critical. Ultrasound scanning plays a vital role in emergency medicine by providing real-time imaging for quick decision-making. Here are key options for accessing ultrasound scans in urgent scenarios:
- Emergency Departments: Hospitals use point-of-care ultrasounds (POCUS) for conditions like abdominal pain, trauma, or ectopic pregnancy, enabling immediate assessments.
- Mobile Ultrasound Services: Mobile units deliver fast scans to homes, clinics, or underserved areas, improving access in remote regions.
- Urgent Care Clinics: Equipped with ultrasound machines, these clinics address conditions like soft tissue injuries or deep vein thrombosis without requiring an ER visit.
- Telemedicine Ultrasound: Remote scans guided by physicians via video conferencing ensure timely evaluations in areas lacking medical facilities.
- Specialized Imaging Centers: These centers focus on rapid results with extended hours and streamlined processes for quick diagnosis.
- Home Health Services: For immobile patients, home ultrasounds support ongoing monitoring or palliative care.
Urgent care clinics provide basic ultrasound services, but for specialized imaging, private clinics may offer better options.
Understanding Ultrasound Services: Urgent Care vs. Private Clinics
The decision between an urgent care ultrasound and a private ultrasound clinic depends on factors like urgency, budget, and the level of care you seek. Urgent care is great for immediate needs, while private clinics can provide more detailed, personalized imaging. Consider your requirements carefully to choose the option that best meets your needs.

FAQ
1. Can Urgent Care Centers Provide Ultrasound Services?
Yes, many urgent care facilities now offer ultrasound services, which can be especially helpful for diagnosing conditions like abdominal pain, urinary issues, or musculoskeletal injuries. It's worth checking in advance whether your local urgent care center provides ultrasound services, as availability varies by location and facility.
2. Are Urgent Care Ultrasounds as Accurate as Those in Private Clinics?
Accuracy largely depends on the equipment and the technician’s expertise. While urgent care centers provide reliable diagnostics, private clinics might have access to more advanced technology, which could result in slightly clearer imaging and more detailed diagnostics.
3. Is It Worth Paying Extra for a Private Ultrasound if I Have Access to an Urgent Care Facility?
This depends on your individual needs. For patients seeking high-resolution scans, 3D/4D imaging, or personalized care, the extra cost may be justified. However, for quick, basic diagnostics, an urgent care ultrasound might suffice.
4. Will my urgent care ultrasound results be as immediate as those in a private clinic?
While urgent care centers often provide quick results, private clinics may have shorter turnaround times and more immediate access to specialists for consultations. If speed and follow-up are priorities, private clinics can provide added assurance.

How long is an MRI scan?
MRI scans generally take a bit longer than other types of scans. Individual scans take 10-30 minutes depending on the body part being scanned, overall it can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 90 minutes. You do have to lay very still for an MRI and if there is movement the scan may need to be repeated which can add some additional time.

What’s the difference between an open and closed MRI?
Closed MRI machines are the traditional and first type of MRI. They are used more frequently because they provide higher quality images, however they aren’t ideal for certain types of scan or when the patient has limited mobility. Open or wide-bore MRI machines don’t involve lying in a tight cylinder, instead they have wider openings with more space and are therefore considered better if you suffer from claustrophobia. A standing MRI or upright MRI is a new type of open MRI that allows the patient to be in various different positions, including weight bearing positions. If you would prefer an open MRI please filter by MRI type to find an open MRI near you, but please be aware it is only available at certain locations.
